Tommy's Margarita Recipe
Tommy's Margarita recipe — The margarita that went to therapy and came back better. Made with tequila. Originally from USA.
Dropped the triple sec, got in touch with its true self. Cleaner, purer, more agave-forward.
Invented by Julio Bermejo at Tommy's Mexican Restaurant in San Francisco in the 1990s. Now considered the definitive modern margarita.
Ingredients
- 2 oz 100% agave tequila blanco (quality matters here — no mixto)
- 1 oz Fresh lime juice (freshly squeezed only)
- 0.5 oz Agave nectar (the key difference from a classic margarita)
- Ice (for shaking)
- Salt (for rim — optional)
- 1 Lime wheel (garnish)
Instructions
- Optional: salt half the rim by running a lime wedge around the edge and dipping in salt.
- Add tequila, lime juice and agave nectar to a shaker with ice.
- Shake hard for 15 seconds.
- Strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice.
- Garnish with lime wheel.
