Strawberry Daiquiri Recipe

Strawberry Daiquiri recipe — The drink that convinced millions that pink equals sophistication at resort poolsides. Made with white rum. Originally from Cuba.

I'm the drink equivalent of that friend who looks cute in pastels but can absolutely demolish you in beer pong. Sure, I seem sweet and innocent with my rosy blush, but I've been the downfall of many a spring breaker who underestimated my rum content.

The strawberry daiquiri became a cultural phenomenon thanks to the invention of the frozen drink machine in the 1950s, but it reached peak fame when bartender Ramon 'Monchito' Marrero claimed to serve 35,000 of them in a single day at the Caribe Hilton in Puerto Rico during the 1970s tourism boom.

The original daiquiri was born in the Cuban mining town of Daiquiri around 1898, invented by American mining engineer Jennings Cox when he ran out of gin. The strawberry version came much later as bartenders started experimenting with tropical fruits to appeal to tourists.
