Pomegranates were so revered in ancient Persia that they were considered symbols of fertility and abundance. Persian brides would throw pomegranates on the ground to see how many seeds scattered — each seed represented a future child.

The pomegranate spritzer emerged in the early 2000s as health-conscious Americans discovered the 'superfruit' trend. California's pomegranate growers, led by companies like POM Wonderful, heavily marketed the fruit's antioxidant properties, leading bartenders and home mixologists to incorporate it into refreshing non-alcoholic drinks.

Ingredients

• 3 oz 100% pomegranate juice
• 4 oz sparkling water (chilled)
• 1 tbsp fresh lime juice
• 1 tsp honey (optional)
• 2 tbsp fresh pomegranate seeds (for garnish)
• 1 sprig fresh mint (for garnish)

Instructions

1. Add pomegranate juice, lime juice, and honey (if using) to wine glass.
2. Fill glass with large ice cubes.
3. Top with chilled sparkling water and gently stir once.
4. Garnish with pomegranate seeds and mint sprig.
