Old Fashioned Recipe
Old Fashioned recipe — The original. The legend. Your grandfather's drink. Made with whiskey. Originally from USA.
Doesn't need to explain itself. Been here before craft cocktails were cool, will be here long after. Speaks in one-liners and always means it. Effortlessly the most interesting person in the room.
The Old Fashioned predates the word cocktail being used for mixed drinks. It was literally called the old-fashioned way by people annoyed at bartenders getting too fancy.
Ingredients
- 2 oz Bourbon or rye whiskey (Buffalo Trace or similar)
- 2 dashes Angostura bitters
- 1 tsp Simple syrup (or 1 sugar cube)
- 1 large Ice cube (one big cube melts slower)
- 1 strip Orange peel (garnish)
- 1 Maraschino cherry (optional)
Instructions
- Add bitters and simple syrup to a rocks glass and stir briefly.
- Add one large ice cube.
- Pour whiskey over the ice. Stir gently for 20 seconds.
- Express an orange peel over the glass by twisting skin-side down to release oils, then run around the rim.
- Drop the peel and cherry in as garnish. Serve immediately.
