Long Island Iced Tea Recipe

Long Island Iced Tea recipe — The overachiever who shows up to every party with five different personalities. Made with multiple. Originally from United States.

I'm that friend who says 'let's just have one drink' then convinces you to close down three different bars. I look innocent like sweet tea, but I'm basically five spirits in a trench coat pretending to be responsible. Fair warning: I don't do anything halfway.

Despite its name, Long Island Iced Tea contains zero tea and wasn't invented on Long Island. Bartender Robert Butt created it in 1972 in Tennessee for a cocktail contest, choosing ingredients that started with 'T' - hence the five different spirits plus Triple Sec.

Robert 'Rosebud' Butt invented this deceptively strong cocktail in 1972 at the Oak Beach Inn in Tennessee during a contest to create a drink with triple sec. He combined five white spirits, added cola for color, and created what looks like innocent iced tea but packs the punch of a small army.
