The lemon drop shot gained massive popularity in the 1970s at Henry Africa's bar in San Francisco, where bartender Norman Jay Hobday created it as a cocktail first. The shot version became so popular that it outsold the original martini-style drink by the 1980s.

Born in the groovy 1970s at Henry Africa's bar in San Francisco, this little troublemaker started life as a full-sized martini. But Americans being Americans, we decided bigger wasn't always better and shrunk it down to shot size for maximum impact.

  1. Rim shot glass with sugar by running lemon around edge and dipping in sugar.
  2. Add vodka, lemon juice, and simple syrup to shaker with ice.
  3. Shake vigorously for 10-15 seconds until well chilled.
  4. Strain into prepared shot glass and garnish with lemon wheel.
