Gimlet Recipe

Gimlet recipe — The naval officer who traded scurvy for sophistication and never looked back. Made with gin. Originally from United Kingdom.

I'm crisp, no-nonsense, and built for the long haul. While other cocktails are busy being complicated, I perfect the art of gin and lime with military precision. I don't do small talk at parties—I get straight to the point and leave you wanting more.

The gimlet was originally created by British naval officers who mixed gin with lime cordial to prevent scurvy during long sea voyages. Rose's Lime Cordial, patented in 1867, was specifically designed to preserve vitamin C without alcohol, making it perfect for keeping sailors healthy.

Born in the Royal Navy sometime in the mid-1800s, the gimlet was the brainchild of pragmatic naval officers who needed their anti-scurvy medicine to taste less medicinal. Named after Rear Admiral Sir Thomas Desmond Gimlette, who allegedly mixed gin with lime juice to make the daily dose more palatable for his crew.
