French 75 Recipe

French 75 recipe — The champagne cocktail that thinks it's artillery—sophisticated but packs a punch. Made with gin. Originally from France.

I'm the Parisian socialite who studied abroad at Cambridge and never lets you forget it. Elegant on the surface but surprisingly potent underneath—I'll charm you with my bubbles then leave you wondering what hit you. I prefer pre-war jazz and post-dinner toasts.

Named after the French 75mm field gun used in WWI, this cocktail was said to have such a kick that it felt like being shelled by the famous artillery piece. American soldiers brought the recipe back from Paris after the war.

Created at Harry's New York Bar in Paris during World War I, this cocktail became the drink of choice for celebrating Allied victories. Bartender Harry MacElhone wanted something that mixed American gin with French champagne—diplomacy in a glass.
