The Cosmopolitan became a global phenomenon thanks to Sex and the City, but the show's prop master originally wanted to use a Sidecar instead. The pink color was deemed more photogenic under studio lighting.

Born in the 1980s New York gay bar scene, perfected by bartender Toby Cecchini at The Odeon in 1988. He refined an earlier version to create the pink-hued icon that would later rule Manhattan's cocktail scene.

Ingredients

• 2 oz vodka (premium quality preferred)
• 0.5 oz Cointreau (or triple sec)
• 0.75 oz cranberry juice
• 0.5 oz fresh lime juice

Instructions

1. Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
2. Shake vigorously for 10-15 seconds until well chilled.
3. Double strain into a chilled martini glass.
4. Garnish with a lime wheel or twist.
