Blood Orange Margarita Recipe

I'm dramatic AF and not sorry about it. While basic margaritas are out there being predictable, I'm serving dark romance with a citrus twist. I photograph beautifully in moody lighting and pair perfectly with your existential crisis.

Blood oranges get their crimson color from anthocyanins, the same antioxidants found in blueberries and red wine. They only develop their signature blood-red hue when exposed to cold nighttime temperatures during growing season.

Born in trendy California bars during the craft cocktail renaissance of the 90s. Bartenders wanted to elevate the classic margarita with seasonal citrus, and blood oranges provided both gorgeous color and complex flavor that made Instagram-worthy drinks decades before Instagram existed.

Ingredients

• 2 oz blanco tequila
• 1 oz triple sec
• 2 oz fresh blood orange juice
• 0.5 oz fresh lime juice
• 0.25 oz simple syrup (optional, to taste)
• 1 pinch coarse salt (for rim)
• 1 wheel blood orange (for garnish)

Instructions

1. Rim rocks glass with lime juice and coarse salt
2. Add tequila, triple sec, blood orange juice, lime juice, and simple syrup to shaker with ice
3. Strain over fresh ice in prepared glass
4. Garnish with blood orange wheel
